Dr Shahir Masri

University of California

I am currently an assistant specialist in air pollution exposure assessment and epidemiology at the University of California, Irvine, where I work on air pollution exposure modeling as well as climate change communication research. I'm also an adjunct faculty member at the Schmid College of Science and Technology at Chapman University where I teach courses on environmental health and pollution, and an adjunct faculty member at National University where I teach online graduate and undergraduate science courses.

EDUCATION
I earned my Doctor of Science and Master of Science degrees from the Department of Environmental Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, and my Bachelor of Science degree from the Institute of the Environment and Sustainability at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).

FOUNDER
In 2018, I co-founded a project called "On the Road for Climate Action," which is an effort to raise awareness about climate change by organizing educational climate events and giving public presentations across all 50 states.

WRITING & RESEARCH
I am the author of the book Beyond Debate: Answers to 50 Misconceptions on Climate Change, which has been acclaimed by Citizens' Climate Lobby founder Marshall Saunders, among prominent scientists at MIT, UCLA, and elsewhere. I am also the author of numerous articles which have been published in The Hill, Thrive Global, Johns Hopkins University Water Institute Magazine, and elsewhere. Currently, I am involved in studies investigating exposure to harmful combustion-related air pollutants in the U.S. and China, as well as a project to quantify the health effects associated with mercury and fish consumption. In my prior work, I helped develop novel predictive models to estimate particulate matter (PM) exposure among U.S. military personnel deployed to Southwest Asia and Afghanistan. Over a dozen of my studies have been published in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
